Garmin has decided to compete in the wearable activity trackers market and I say why not. Garmin is well known for it’s gps watches and devices tracking runners, cyclist, golfers and climbers for years so why not track and motivate all those who want to adopt a more active lifestyle.
The Vivofit is a stylish, lightweight fitness band that automatically tracks your daily progress and reminds you when you have been inactive and lazy. It features an always on display that shows steps, goal countdown, calories, distance, and time of day. It will also track your sleep and with a touch of a button it will sync with Garmin Connect, a free online community where reports and fancy infographics are generated ready to share with you online friends and nemesis .
The Vivofit has a few features that will make it stand out from the competition like the long lasting battery, one year user replaceable, water-resistant to 50m, as well as being compatible with ANT+ heart rate monitors.
But it seems that it is also lacking a major feature for now, iOS and Android compatibility!
Vívofit will be available in black, purple, teal, blue and slate and begin shipping Q1 2014.
It is going to be an interesting year for wearable tech.
