Kalafakiona is a small rock formation just outside Kalo Livadi, Mykonos. Today I had the chance to go for an interesting dive with the friendly and well organised guys from GoDive Mykonos.
Only a short boat ride away from the dive club we were near the end of an ancient route from Andros to Mykonos. Ships would carry marble to be sculpted into statues for Delos but due to bad weather, poor navigation or some unfortunate event ships would not complete their voyage. So on the sea bed there are plenty of ancient clay pottery pieces and marble. Its only pieces with a few exceptions of a few semi formed amphorae to be found since they have been removed.
There is plenty of sea life with clear water and great visibility to complement the dive. Large groupers, moray eels, schools of barracuda and plenty of smaller fish found in the Aegean.
The dive was easy with no currents and not deep. Max depth was 20m, 45 min dive time so I surfaced with 130bar.
I had planned to shoot some video with my scuba ready GoPro but unfortunately it decided not to switch on. Its battery was dead. So did my two dive computers so I guess it was not meant to be. The GoPro was is my backpack for a couple of days so it seems that it switched on without me knowing draining the battery. The D9 went in a constant loop between time and dive mode and the Cobra only worked in gauge mode.
Never the less I enjoyed a safe dive and looking forward to the next.
